Delivering Excellence: Our Role as NEC Supervisor for King’s College Hospital’s New Critical Care Centre

We are proud to reflect on our pivotal role as the NEC Supervisor for the cutting-edge Critical Care Centre at King’s College Hospital, London, a project that has reshaped the hospital’s capacity to deliver life-saving treatment and enhanced patient care. This transformative development wasn’t just about bricks and mortar; it was about creating a space designed to support healing, innovation, and future healthcare needs.

With an investment of £100 million, the new three-storey facility brought 60 state-of-the-art intensive care beds to one of London’s leading hospitals. Built directly above the existing theatre block, this ambitious design maximised space in a highly constrained, operationally sensitive environment. Every aspect of the project had to be meticulously planned to ensure the hospital’s vital functions, especially critical 'blue light' emergency routes remained fully operational throughout the build.

The project also demanded significant mechanical and electrical upgrades, including the creation of a new plant room capable of supporting both the expanded critical care facilities and existing theatres. Every detail was engineered to enhance performance, future-proof infrastructure, and ensure seamless integration with the hospital’s existing systems.

As NEC Supervisor, we took on the crucial role of ensuring every element of the project stayed true to its vision and contractual obligations. Our responsibilities included conducting in-depth site inspections, monitoring technical testing, and ensuring that all construction met the highest standards of quality and compliance. By identifying potential issues early, we ensured that solutions were implemented swiftly, keeping the project on schedule and delivering outstanding results.
