Adult Burns Unit
Cliftons Projects were appointed to act as Project Managers and Clients Representative for the fit out and refurbishment of a 1,500m2 Adult Burns Unit for Chelsea & Westminster Foundation Trust in London.
Chelsea and Westminster already has an Adult Burns Unit however it was over 15 years old and desperately needed refreshing.
With additional Burns Commissioner funding the Trust were able to embark on the refurbishment of the space. Fortuitously an adjacent ward had become vacant there’re the entire unit could be transferred to allow the works to progress.
The unit now completed comprises of:
- A state of the art Burns Operating Theatre
- Anaesthetic room
- Recovery room
- Two 6 bedded single sex wards
- A 4 bedded day case ward
- 2 HDU with ensuite facilities
- Specialist bathing facilities
- 2 ITU rooms
- 4 treatment rooms.
Due to the facilities used a number of the rooms were designed as negative pressure rooms and a careful positive/negative pressure regime was designed in conjunction with Infection Control and the Health Protection Agency.
Cliftons Projects were responsible for gathering the user brief, collating an experienced design team and managing the design and construction process to ensure the end users’ expectations were met and delivered.
